A huge fish story

We get asked why we insist so often on wrestling with stories and passages from the bible. Some argue that a collection of writings, thousands of years old, has to be outdated and irrelevant to modern life. Many will point to disturbing stories depicting violence, misogyny, or slavery – or even its contradictions with modern science as reasons to dismiss it. We fully acknowledge these issues.

Yet, despite these and other issues, we still believe the bible stands as one of the greatest tools for spiritual reflection and learning we’ve encountered.

This Sunday as we close out our “Stories that Changed Our Worlds” series and begin a new series called “Watering Our Worlds” – I’m going to retell one of the bible’s most problematic stories and demonstrate how, even in 2023, it can still provoke deep reflection, and ask hard questions, ultimately leading to what we call around here, “Taking water our world”.
