In some ways, Nancy and Dick Ponzi\u2019s entry into the business of wine in Oregon sounds very similar to ours. As Nancy wrote in her 2010 cookbook, it started in the nineteen-sixties. \u201cIf you weren\u2019t alive then, it\u2019s difficult to relate.\u201d \u201cYoung people, such as Dick and me, were searching for roots and a path was presented by going back to the land, to basics and self-reliance.\u201d I wanted to better understand how \u201cback to the land\u201d translated into starting one of Oregon\u2019s foundational wineries. Nancy and Dick agreed to meet with us outside their original winery, next to the home they built, on October 14, 2020.
