Episode 011 of the Former Action Guys Podcast features retired Sergeant Major and Marine Corps Infantryman Tracy Offutt.

Tracy's career spans more than three decades and included a short stint in the Army National Guard. After leaving the Guard, Tracy decided to join the Marine Corps as an infantryman and following boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and training at the School of Infantry aboard Camp Pendleton, California, he joined 2nd Battalion 7th Marines as Dragon Gunner.

After arriving at his first duty station Tracy fell into the normal cycle of training and deployments that guaranteed time in Marine Corps Base 29 Palms and overseas in places like Japan, Thailand, etc. This cycle was busted when his unit announced that they would e deploying to the Middle East in support of the operation that became known as Operation Desert Storm/Shield.

Following his deployment to the Middle East, Tracy continued the cycle of training and deploying to foreign nations for training exercises. Following that, he became a Primary Marksmanship Instructor for Edson Range and would later go on to be a Drill Instructor aboard MCRD San Diego. Following his time on the drill field, Tracy was assigned to the School of Infantry to help identify and negate training deficiencies between MCRD and SOI.

Later, Tracy was selected as a 1st Sergeant and assigned to 1st Battalion 5th Marines for their deployment to Ramadi, Iraq. Following a tough deployment that ended in eight Marines from his company being killed, Tracy was assigned to Inspector and Instructor Duty with an engineering unit out of Washington. He did his time there and eventually received orders for 1st ANGLICO where he was the company's Sergeant Major until he retired in 2015.

Overall, this was a great interview that didn't cover half of what he's done and I look forward to a future interview where we can get into the details more regarding specific points of his career.
