35. How to Work Hard for What You Want with Sophie Cunningham

Published: Feb. 2, 2021, 1:29 p.m.

Episode 35 features former farm girl and forever fan favorite Sophie Cunningham, who helped put Mizzou Women’s Basketball on the map during her highly-decorated tenure as a Tiger from 2015-2019.

And yet, despite living a life of seemingly uncapped success and excellence as an athlete, Sophie’s story and perspective on life extends far beyond the basketball court.

In other words, she is much more than an athlete.

Known for her tenacity and “sass” she admits that’s different “inside the lines,” but we were fortunate enough to pick her brain on some of the following topics during this very special episode:

· The challenges of playing professional basketball in the bubble during COVID
· How to encourage confidence in young girls
·  The importance of strong and influential women in her own life
· Her “whatever it takes” mentality
· Advice to parents of kids who enjoy sports and other hobbies
· A behind the scenes chat surrounding drama from her collegiate career
· Her $50,000 feistiness
· The darker side of being attacked and harassed on social media
· Why she signs autographs until midnight
· Some brief thoughts on the emptiness materialism can bring
· How her worldview shapes her decision-making process
· Her passion for giving back to the Columbia community

Lastly, of course, we ask Sophie how she hopes to be remembered “once it’s all over,” as we like to say. And, just as a bit of a spoiler alert, we don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
