Official word on the Hatch Act: It does not apply to POTUS or the VEEP.

Special Counsel Henry Kerner, in a statement, says the Hatch Act expressly does not apply to the President or Vice President and that only the Justice Department can advise on criminal provisions from the Hatch Act.
