Andre Gower, the star of The Monster Squad co-writes and directs the documentary Wolfman's Got Nards, available now for pre-order ahead of its Tuesday, October 27, 2020 release. Gower who played Sean in the film, reached out to fellow cast mates Ryan Lambert (Rudy) and Ashley Banks (Phoebe) for what started out as a 30th celebration tour hitting 17 cities in 17 days with all screenings being held at an Alamo Draft House Theater.
\nThis was all on the heels of when in 2006, the last remaining 35 mm print copy of The Monster Squad was found in New Zealand and brought to an Alamo Draft House in Texas, with a special screening featuring the cast and co-writer/director Fred Dekker, who did not expect and sold out crowd. Dekker was asked about a DVD edition and told the fans it was up to them to make their voices heard, which they did.
\nNot only was a DVD released but for the 25th anniversary, a double disc Blu-ray set came out. All this for a movie that died at the box office, of which I was one of the lucky kids in 1987 that got to see it in the theater and still remember it fondly.
\nMost importantly what goes on in this documentary is the absolutely touching tribute to the late Brent Chalem (Fat Kid/Horace), who passed away far too young and his story is told by old family friends and his girlfriend about what he meant to them and to the movie at large.
\nThrough the love of the fans, the resurgence of the film and the desire to keep it alive, Gower and co-writer, co-producer and cinematographer Henry McComas (The Boy Band Con: The Lou Pearlman Story) take us on a journey, of the history of the film, the fanfare it so rightly deserves and why the Warner Bros. movie that couldn't in theaters, did so well on HBO and the home video market that was never forgotten by 80s kids like myself who drove their teachers crazing by constantly quoting the iconic scene of Wolfman's Got Nards.
\nThe Wolfman's Got Nards is available for pre-order by clicking here. and comes to VOD and DVD.
