Rev. Catharine Clarenbach (pronouns she/her) is an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister (with a Masters in Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary, chaplaincy training, internship, and supervision – all before her ordination at All Souls Unitarian Church in Washington DC). She is also an initiate in the Tradition of Stone Circle Wicca (USA), and has been a spiritual director/guide for 25 years. Rev. Catharine is the creator of The Way of the River, a community anchored by her website, thewayoftheriver.com.

Rev. Catharine is one of a new generation of ministers who, in this time of congregational decline, is reaching out to help deepen a sense of meaning for folks in spiritual-but-not-religious, Unitarian Universalist, Pagan, and progressive Christian communities. The members of The Way of the River community may or may not belong to other religious communities, and people of all faiths and none are welcome. Her methods are entrepreneurial, using justice- and accessibility-oriented pricing, and a variety of offerings for those interested in accessing their own deep wisdom and sense of the Holy within themselves and The Way of the River community.

She comes with a background of trauma, mental illness, and a host of other challenges, and is a successful “awarepreneur,” as Paul Zelizer says, helping hundreds of people to find the guidance of the Divine in their own deepest, wisest selves. She is a fat, white, queer femme who believes that Love is the center of all other virtues, and the motivation for what can create a more just and sustainable world.
