This week we are joined by Tom Gadhue, owner of Solar Sweet Maple Farm in South Lincoln, Vermont. Tom has been producing maple syrup in Vermont since he was a young boy boiling sap around a campfire. While his operation and sugaring process have grown in size and sophistication, it is Tom’s passion for sugaring and spending time in the woods that makes his product so special.
The Solar Sweet Maple Farm uses state of the art technology to maximize sap yield and evaporation efficiency. Vacuum pumps to increase sapping yield, reverse osmosis water filtration systems increase their evaporation efficiency by 12 fold, and behemoth steam engine sized evaporator which generates its heat from cord wood that the farm harvests from the surrounding woods.
