001: Introducing the Digital Enterprise Society

Published: June 5, 2019, 5:33 p.m.

Digital Enterprise Society is the authority on the transformation to a digital enterprise, impacting all areas of an organization.  Discussion among industry leaders about operations and action needed to drive digitalization principles forward for the future of product development and lifecycles.

On this first episode of the Digital Enterprise Society podcast, Thom Singer introduces himself; Craig Brown, retired PLM leader from GM; and Nathan Hartman, department head at Purdue University and outgoing chair at PLM World.  They have come together to discuss the transition from PLM World to the Digital Enterprise Society, the speed of change in this industry, and what users and listeners can expect when interacting with this project.

Nate explains why there has been a need for change, and answers the big question of today’s podcast what is the Digital Enterprise Society? He highlights the importance of networking, collaboration and interaction among users as the primary focal points of the DES board.  He shares the reason that the systems actually have very little to do with the technology itself and everything to do with the company’s willingness to embrace new technology, and offers suggestions regarding the importance of identifying process versus practice within an organization.

Craig shares his thoughts on using the Digital Enterprise Society podcast as a tool to help people learn, connect, and get inspired.  He invites listeners to send in their ideas for areas of improvement in unmet needs, and encourages leaders of all business sizes to uncover education and other issues and then organize efforts to resolve those issues.

Digital Enterprise Society is a center for discussion about hot topics of Industry 4.0, where people can learn from each other, and mitigate the pace of today’s industrial revolution.  It is a safe haven for people to process and embrace the disruption that is happening in today’s digital society.
