Dr. Jos\xe9 R. Gonz\xe1lez-Juanatey, of University Hospital, Santiago de Compostela, Spain, discusses with Dr. Ron Waksman results from the REALITY trial, which randomized anemic patients presenting with myocardial infarction to a liberal strategy of red blood cell transfusion or a restrictive strategy. REALITY, which was presented as a late-breaking trial at ACC.21 Virtual, found that the restrictive strategy did not achieve non-inferiority at 1 year after treatment. This was against the pre-study hypothesis, which was that the restrictive strategy would be non-inferior and less costly compared to the liberal strategy.
