When Israel celebrated the Feasts of Firstfruits, they were commanded in Deuteronomy 26 to recite the history of their exodus out from Egypt. The purpose of this was to embed in every Jewish person a shared identity of who they were as a nation. In fact, the whole of Scriptures read not as a system of truth but as stories of truth. The stories are told so that we'd know why we do what we do as believers. Likewise, this ensures that our children and the generations that come after us remain faithful to the Lord.
