You can also listen to the reflection using the audio player below. Read Psalm 8  Listen to Psalm 8 In our galaxy there are probably over a hundred-billion stars like our Sun. Our galaxy is one of a hundred-billion galaxies. When we consider the vastness of the universe its easy to feel small and insignificant. As David looks at the night sky, he is amazed by the greatness of creation that God has made; ‘when I consider your heavens the work of your fingers…’ (v 3). David is not awed by creation itself; he sees beneath the surface to the creator. So many people are awed by creation but don’t look beneath the surface to the creator. In Romans 1 we see that God can be seen in his creation, ‘God’s invisible qualities …have been clearly seen…from what has been made…men are without excuse’ (Rom. 1:20) Seeing an awesome God in his world leads to a question of our smallness in the bigness of the universe ‘what is man that you are mindful of him’ (v 4)? This is a wonderful truth that God is mindful of us, we are cared-for creatures. We have been given the great privilege of having a relationship with God, ‘Our Lord’ (v 1) and caring for the earth ‘ruler/steward over the works of your hands’ (v 6).
