You can also listen to the reflection using the audio player below. Read Psalm 134  Listen to Psalm 134 This psalm is an exhortation to bless the Lord. Though the first song of ascents found the psalmist in the dire straits of alien territory, this last one finds God’s servants serving him day and night in his house. God’s servants here are the Levites. The worshipers were probably leaving the temple after an evening service where they were urging the priests to worship God even as they attend to the burnt offerings which continued day and night. When they lift up their hands to the Lord, they are recognizing him as the object of their worship. The Levites respond by giving final blessings to the pilgrims as they depart Zion to go home. Paul tells us to “rejoice in the Lord always.” I suspect that most of us start the day with prayer and whilst we may not be called to pray through the night it is a good habit to, at least, remember God in praise as we go to sleep and thank him for the events of the day. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
