Kaalakaalaha - One who is death even to the god of death Yama.
Kaala also means time. K\u0101lak\u0101la means one who is greater than
time . K\u0101lak\u0101la is the form of Shiva who kicked Yama, to save his
devotee Maarkandeya. Lord Shiva's power over death is clearly
proved by this incident .

k\u0101la\u1e25 = He who counts or accounts. In the form of Citragupta,
\u015aiva keeps account of the merit and sin of individual souls as well
as the result of those karmas

k\u0101la\u1e25 = Of the nature of time. The flow of events like birth and
death that result from factors like time are considered \u2018time\u2019 itself.
Another meaning of the word k\u0101la is, \u2018the factor that causes
association with the body (and such limiting adjuncts).\u2019 Time is a
form of \u015aiva only.

karma-k\u0101la-vit = He who knows precisely the right time for all
activities/rituals. \u015aiva alone is the one who controls time and He
surely knows in exact form the important time points such as dar\u015ba
or am\u0101v\u0101sy\u0101.

k\u0101la-ka\u1e6da\u1e45ka\u1e6da\u1e25 = He who covers even the m\u0101y\u0101 that envelopes
Yama, the god of death. This means \u015aiva has m\u0101y\u0101 under His
control.

In the time of mah\u0101pralaya ( the great end ) all the worlds ,
demigods , demons and all other beings dissolve in the Lord and at
last the god of death is also dissolved. Kaale kaalaha - At the time
of dissolution of the Universe, Lord Shiva becomes death for
everyone.

This form of Shiva is worshipped in one of the twelve jyotirlingas.
He is worshipped in avantika pura (Ujjain) as Mah\u0101k\u0101la. The
greatest time and death.

Jagat-k\u0101la-sth\u0101la\u1e25 = He who makes Yama His eating plate. Yama
is jagat-k\u0101la, for he devours the world; he causes death to all. \u015aiva
is Yama\u2019s Yama.
