One who holds the weapon shula ( Trishula - trident ) in his hand . Why does the Lord hold a Trishul in His hands? Why do Hindu Gods have weapons in their hands? It represents active resistance
to evil. The importance of the Trishula is described in padma pur\u0101na

Lord Vishnu who is the embodiment of yagya - sacred sacrifices created the Trishula with his mind . The three tips of the Trishula indicate three gunas ( satva - peace purity and other qualities . Rajas - over - activeness , pride , etc and tamas - dullness ,
ignorance etc ) three states ( jaagrat - awaken state , svapna - dream state , sushupti - deep sleep state ) three kinds of sacred fires , three tenses , three worlds and three kinds of powers (ichcha - desire, kriya - action and gyaana -the knowledge) By
holding the Trishula which is a representation of above mentioned qualities, states and powers, it is clear that Lord Shiva is above all these and he is not bound to these. He controls them .
In Rudram it is said:
namah svaayudhaaya ca sudhanvane ca
Svayudha means Trishula. He has a good weapon like Trishula. It is infallible or a weapon which is auspicious. He destroys the Jiva\u2019s bhoka & karma asakti and provides jnana & vairagya to the
Jeeva.
