Sham kaarayati iti Shankaraha. He who causes Happiness. Shankara is the giver of Happiness. Shambhu also has the same meaning.
He who brought welfare to the ascetics of Daruka forest. Their wellbeing was in HIS hands. He who is like fire to the groups of doubts. The syllable ra stands for fire, while shanka means a cluster of doubts. shankaanaam samuhaha Shankam, tasya ra iva raha Sankaraha sarva-sankaa-daahakaha. Much censured by the ascetics, He deludes them, does good to them out of compassion and finally removes their doubts and grants true wisdom to them.
