National Freedom Day:

National Freedom Day, always observed\xa0on February 1st, celebrates freedom from slavery. \xa0It also recognizes that America is a symbol of liberty. \xa0It honors the signing by Abraham Lincoln of a joint House and Senate resolution that later became the 13th Amendment to the U.S.\xa0Constitution\xa0 \xa0President Lincoln signed the Amendment outlawing slavery on February 1, 1865. \xa0It was not ratified by the states, however, until later on December 18, 1865.\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE\n\nBlack Americans/African American have a deep history in the USA and around the world. Some have been tragic events imposed upon us. Such as enslaving our ancestors. Feburary 1st is National Freedom day. Use #NationalFreedomDay to post on social media.\n\nHISTORY\n\nA former slave by the name of Major Richard Robert Wright, Sr. created National Freedom Day. \xa0Major Wright was looked upon as a great leader in the community. \xa0It was believed by Major Wright, that this day needed to be celebrated.\n\nBecause of Abraham Lincoln\u2019s signing the 13th Amendment outlawing slavery on February 1, 1865, February 1st was\xa0chosen\xa0as the day for National Freedom Day. \xa0On June 30, 1948, President Harry Truman signed a bill proclaiming February 1st as the first official National Freedom Day in the United States."
