This February is \u201cFrame of Reference\u201d month at Catching Up On\nCinema!

\n

All month long, Trevor and Kyle will be reviewing films that have\nfrequently been referenced in recent episodes of the podcast.

\n

Due to a technical snafu, our initial review this month, of Brian\nHelgeland's, Payback (1999) had to be re-recorded as a solo affair,\nfeaturing only Trevor on the mic.

\n

A grim neo-noir crime thriller, Payback (1999) was prolific\nHollywood writer Brian Helgeland's feature directorial debut.

\n

Apparently a somewhat contentious production, Helgeland was\napparently ousted from the production at some point during filming.

\n

Despite often being criticized for its cruel atmosphere, the film\nwould later receive a director's cut, overseen by Helgeland, that is\nconsiderably shorter than the theatrical cut, though it is up for\ndebate which version is the superior cut.
