This week on Catching Up On Cinema, Kyle and Trevor review\nWolfgang Petersen's, Enemy Mine (1985)!

\n

An over-budgeted box office flop with a checkered production\nhistory, Enemy Mine (1985) is a charming, if uneven, sci-fi fable.

\n

On the subject of \u201ccheckered production history,\u201d the story\ngoes that director Wolfgang Petersen was courted to take the helm of\nEnemy Mine over 5 weeks into the films' production, after original\ndirector Richard Loncraine apparently failed to meet the producer's\nexpectations.

\n

After director Petersen paused and rewound production to begin\nanew and remake the film from whole cloth, the production budget of\nEnemy Mine would essentially double.

\n

To make matter worse, the film failed to generate interest at the\nbox office, and Enemy Mine would go on to be regarded as a financial\nfailure.

\n

Despite failing to find an audience during its theatrical run,\nEnemy Mine has since gone on to become somewhat of a cult classic,\nlargely on the strength of its handsome production design, and\nwinning performances from both Louis Gossett Jr. and Dennis Quaid.
