  1. Insanity can be fuelled by the excessive use of alcohol and drugs alone. There need be no other causes.
  2. Alcoholics and addicts who are still abusing believe that a change of scene will amount to a cure. They do not yet understand that "wherever you go, there you are".
  3. Denial is a mighty powerful force. Bruno J. could not make the connection between his mental illness and his abuse of alcohol and drugs until the very end.
  4. Relapses should not surprise the family; sometimes it takes the loss of everything that an addict values for him to come to terms, to surrender to the reality if his condition.
