Raised under a "women are inferior" mentality, her parents laid out her future for her. Vera would get married, have children and cater to her family as a housewife. They didn't anticipate on her picking up a gun. At 40, Vera turned to competitive sport shooting, which liberated her and turned her into elite global athlete. Thirty years later, she has two World titles and honor of being the first women to place in the overall top 20. Today, she mentors young athletes as she continues to compete at the highest level against both men and women.
