Episode 54: Shelley Duvall - "The Shining" (1980)

For as ornate and mysterious as "The Shining" is under Stanley Kubrick's unique vision, it also features an incredibly raw and realistic portrayal of human terror by Shelley Duvall as Wendy Torrance and as Shelley Duvall filming "The Shining." (Including a record-breaking number of takes on that baseball bat scene.) While technically in a leading role, we had to celebrate Duvall's BSA energy this week, from her measured Act One monologue to her complete and total meltdown while Jack infamously chops down the bathroom door. We also have much to say about Jack Nicholson, the impact of the score, whether or not we would want to be seasonal caretakers of an isolated hotel (depends on the WiFi), Stephen King's vision of Wendy, parallels to some Texas Chainsaw actressing, and if there's such a thing as too much crying in a movie.\n\nEmail: thebsapod@gmail.com\nTwitter: @bsapod\n\nColin Drucker\nTwitter: @colindrucker\nInstagram: @colindrucker_\n\nNick Kochanov\nTwitter: @nickkochanov\nInstagram: @nickkochanov
