Is it possible to have no enemies? Jesus taught us to “love your enemies,” but maybe it’s time to recast that appeal with a new and more relevant translation for today? What if instead we were to “have no enemies?” As evolutionary biology concludes, it is instinctual for Homo sapiens to have enemies; it’s how we survived as a species. Old Testament wisdom repeatedly refers to the preservation of God’s remnant throughout history and distinguishes a hierarchy of insiders from outsiders. Until the time of Jesus, this distinction was never countered. However, despite Jesus’ petition, societal and political division and animosity continue today. Join us today as Pastor Tony reflects on remaining hopeful in a society full of enmity. Discover three steps you can take to rekindle a diminishing sense of hope and rest in a space of love and acceptance of your adversaries. In such a time as this, rediscover your sense of HOPE to gift to others now and into the new year.

Recorded live at Beatitudes Church in Phoenix, AZ on 12/11/20

Preaching: Rev.
