Did you know that moldy bread was once used as a leavening agent in dough to make bread rise? Centuries ago in Jesus’ time, however, introducing mold into bread dough was forbidden as leavened bread was considered unclean and corrupted. Jesus addressed this distinction between leavened and unleavened bread through a parable that carries over to society today. Do you ever feel as if our society is growing more and more divided lately? That social issues are garnering more and more of your attention? With social media leveraging widespread reach with social policies and issues, is our divisiveness as a society growing exponentially, or is it just that we have more platforms and megaphones from which to sound off? Join Pastor Tony Minear, Ph.D. as he explores this parable and the distinctions Jesus encountered of clean versus unclean, pure versus corrupt, and the natural order of society and culture. Learn what can happen when you mix a leavening agent (the corrupt) with flour (the pure). Listen and discover how we as a society can evolve to a level playing field when we minimize our exposure to “group thinks” and collective psyches by realizing that those who oppose us do still share the same common need as us to be loved and to give love. Perhaps, our divisiveness isn’t really all that different than it was centuries ago when Jesus walked the earth. Recorded live at Church of the Beatitudes, Phoenix, AZ on 10/13/19 Preaching: Rev.
