SSC SURVEY RESULTS ON TRUST

Last post\xa0talked about individual differences in whether people found others basically friendly or hostile. The\xa0SSC survey\xa0included a sort of related question: \u201cAre people basically trustworthy?\u201d

The exact phrasing asked respondents to rate other people from 1 (\u201cbasically trustworthy\u201d) to 5 (\u201cbasically untrustworthy\u201d). 4853 people answered. The average was 2.49 \u2013 so skewed a bit towards higher trust. The overall pattern looked like this:
