Mechwarrior started promoting and dj'ing in 1996 in Sydney, Australia. After promoting successful techno and DnB events in the World War II-era bunkers that dot Sydney Harbors shoreline as well as venues like The Occidental he switched 100% of his focus onto dj'ing. The first promoters to take interest were Junglepunks. Although the name suggests a DnB leaning, the two founders, Jamie 'SpeakaFreaka' Sparks and Alex 'Manson' Morgan were staunch hard-techno fans and the name came from the outdoor venues used.
