On February 1, 1922, William Desmond Taylor, one of the most famous movie directors in early Hollywood, was murdered in his bungalow in the Westlake District of Los Angeles. At first, it was assumed that he died of natural causes \u2013 until someone discovered that he had been shot in the back by a .38-caliber revolver.
