On the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 moon landing, I discuss various religious controversies that arose as part of the Space Race, including the Apollo 8 reading from the Book of Genesis on Christmas Eve 1968; Buzz Aldrin's observance of Communion during Apollo 11; and the successful campaign by the Apollo Prayer League to send hundreds of microfilm Bibles to the moon.
