Josh Balia is a powerlifter, coach, and almost sports psychologist. He has used his amazing skill set to found Weights for Mates, a mental health program that sees young men using strength training as a tool to manage anxiety and depression. This program recognises the correlation between exercise and positive mental health, and provides a framework for supportive conversations. Josh's client's range from general population to elite athletes, and he discusses the challenges of managing motivation across the board, whether the goal is the Olympic stage or to get a full push up. Josh shares his understanding of the psychology behind what drives us and how we can use that mental strength in isolation to come out the other side even better versions of ourselves.
