Trauma, We May All Have It But We Are Not Defined By It with Nidhi Tewari

Published: May 30, 2021, 6 p.m.

Trauma can present itself in so many different ways and can come at any point in our lives. In this conversation, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Nidhi Tewari dissects exactly what trauma is and how differently we can all experience trauma both physically and mentally. As Shannon opens up to Nidhi about the fears she has had about trauma therapy, Nidhi relieves some of those fears by identifying the positive experiences we can be avoiding by not identifying trauma and the danger we can be placing ourselves in. Very similar to anxiety, it is important to safely face and learn to work through traumas with a licensed professional. To protect our creativity, safety identifiers, memory, and so much more, we need to protect our mental health. But what a relief! Nidhi talks all about how we can reverse the damage that these experiences can cause us and move on to live a happier and healthier life. There are several different ways we can be working through trauma and Nidhi shares the specifics of her practice that she uses with her clients EDMR. (A tongue twister that Shannon cannot say right this entire episode!) Nidhi also shares how we can be the best support that we can be to those around us who are struggling with trauma.

Before today’s discussion with Nidhi, Shannon shares with everyone the exciting projects she has been working on during her staycation. She also shares a great challenge you can do this Memorial Day to benefit a great charity and honor the men and women who have fought for our freedom.
