A patch of bare dirt sits at the corner of Murray Central Park, next to one of the town's main thoroughfares. By November, the local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars hopes to turn the space into a memorial. On a hot July morning, around two dozen veterans, their families, and representatives from the city, county, and state government came out to dedicate the site.
