The plot of the documentary Babies is simple. It tracks the lives of four newborns from around the world, Namibia, Mongolia, Japan, and San Francisco, until they take their first steps. What the film is saying, however, is a little more layered. Yes, different places present their own unique challenges, whether it's negotiating your stroller through a crowded metropolitan downtown or keeping the family goat from drinking your bathwater, but there's much more that unites us.
