For more than a year, a large portion of the community service in Crittenden County has been performed by inmates at the local jail. Through a work release program, Crittenden County Detention Center prisoners have manned lawn mowers and weed eaters, paying their debt to society through manual labor. Now, as the economy falls and the county has less and less money to pay for expenses including the jail itself, the work release program could get cut.
