Show Notes | October 29, 2020 | Episode 86 Intuit, the Fortune 100 Best Places to Work company that brings you TurboTax, QuickBooks and Mint, is dedicated to our nation’s military. Each year, Intuit proudly offers all enlisted active duty and reserve service members free federal and state tax preparation through TurboTax. They recently created the Intuit Military and Veteran Initiative (MAVI), committed to help transform the lives of military families and veterans through community, jobs and financial empowerment. The company also employs hundreds of top talent military veterans and their family members, whose wide range of life experiences brings valuable ideas and perspective to the table. Now, Intuit is in a rush to hire 10,000 tax professionals for the upcoming tax season. Three leaders from Intuit recently joined VirtForce in a live discussion to talk about some of the company’s hottest remote career opportunities that compliment military lifestyles. Intuit’s head of MAVI, Karen Brasch, personally struggled with her transition into the commercial world after retiring as a Commander and US Navy pilot. It took her years to get to where she is today, and she wants to help other service members get over that hurdle a little quicker. Karen also runs the Intuit Military Network, which has a mission to educate, recruit and mentor, providing all veterans and their families with opportunities to grow and develop their skillsets. The company has a focus on milspouses this year and wants to make sure they are aware of the full-time, part-time and remote job opportunities Intuit is creating. As a traditional tech company, Intuit’s talent acquisition team is being trained on how to read and interpret resumes from veterans and military spouses, which may have gaps from duty station changes. For military spouses who put their careers on hold to raise their families and are now ready to reenter the workforce, there is the Intuit Again returnship program. This year, Intuit has a focus on hiring the military community for a TurboTax Live remote work opportunity. Veterans and spouses can work remotely through TurboTax Live as non-credentialed tax associates or credentialed tax experts, assisting customers from the comfort of their own homes. Intuit provides the necessary training and equipment for a customer-facing, work-from-home position including a laptop and phone. During tax season, associates and tax experts build their own schedule based around Intuit’s business hours of operating seven days a week between 5 AM and 9 PM PST. You can decide your day off and what hours you work as long as there is a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week. Other benefits include 401k, free TurboTax and product discounts. Tax associates can also participate in a free development program to earn their Enrolled Agent license. This is a great benefit for people who do not have the time or resources to get their EA license. Intuit will provide it all. A lot of people take advantage of this program, and while there is a time commitment to study, it is worth it in the end. The other position Intuit is aligning with MAVI is QuickBooks Live. Intuit launched QuickBooks Live in August of 2019. Since then, they have hired 1,200 virtual, remote bookkeepers. The program continues to grow by 25 to 100 live bookkeepers a month. Why can’t that be you? QuickBooks Live is a software for small and medium-sized businesses. Intuit wanted to change the way people did bookkeeping, so they took a page out of the TurboTax Live notebook and started offering expert services virtually.     Customers can spend less time balancing their books and more time becoming more profitable. Meanwhile, Intuit can hire people all over the US in a part-time, remote, virtual capacity, especially important in times like the current with the COVID-19 pandemic.   The QuickBooks Live position is year-round,
