‘My dad died to make the Afghan people better’: Taliban takeover hits home

Published: Aug. 20, 2021, 5 a.m.

In this special episode of “Tying It Together With Tim Boyum,” we have an emotional and engaging conversation with a Gold Star family member and someone who helped teach campaigns and democracy in Afghanistan.

Nick Ochsner, a reporter with WBTV in Charlotte, N.C., lost his dad in Afghanistan in 2005, and Jonathan Felts spent more than a year trying to teach campaigning in the war-torn country in 2010.

Following the recent withdrawal of U.S. troops from the region, they are both now struggling to watch as the Taliban quickly takes control of the country and the chaos that has ensued at the airport in the capital city of Kabul.
