Cortez is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, a group that calls for an end to private profit and end to capitalism. Many people don't understand that under socialism you do not control the fruits of your labor, rather the state or collective gets to decide where your value gets put. Without private profit the individual cannot decide what they get to purchase or trade.
