David C. Driskell says he is not a protest artist, though he has created art that speaks to the politics of race. His work as an art historian and educator for the past 44 years, most recently at the University of Maryland, has been focused on including African American artists into the cannon of American art. Driskell's own work focuses on the organic, capturing the beauty of nature and human forms.
