How did we get here politically? Setting the stage before Trump was elected. Ineffective, stupid government bureaucracy & overreach. Taxes & spending. Obamacare. Duplicity of services. Poor performance. Lots of excuses. Lifetime politicians. Politicians created a void that Donald Trump filled. China builds islands and can make it rain, but we can't build a wall along our border? Trump to cut programs & agencies. Trump's approach & leadership style. Aggressive agenda. Focus on results immediately. Combine this with how the Democrats respond with protests (sometimes actually leading to riots) & engage in the politics of personal destruction, and you can see the tables are set for all-out political war.
