Episode 147: Should the Church Help Victims Cut Ties With Their Abusers?

Published: April 15, 2021, 5 p.m.

b'Churches default to reconciliation as a first response to uncovering abuse. Leaders often refer to select Bible verses to back their aggressive efforts to reconcile abusers with their victims. This is especially true if the victim is married to the abuser. We see this all the time in violent marriages. Women are very often urged to remain entrapped in abusive homes and submit to their husband\'s brutality.

But should the church instead help victims to cut ties with their abusers? How do we know when it is best to cut ties? We discuss all of this in this episode.
