Episode 137: Pennsylvania Once Again Fails Child Sex Victims

Published: Feb. 4, 2021, 6:02 p.m.

b'Pennsylvania abuse survivors have been trying to get justice for a long time. The 2018 Grand Jury Report, which discovered over 1,000 victims and 300 pedophile priests, recommended that a two year window be opened for victims who fell under an outdated statute of limitations. In 2018 the proposed law passed overwhelmingly in the Pennsylvania House only to have it squashed by then President pro tempore of the Senate, Joe Scarnati. He intentionally stalled the bill until the clock ran out for that legislative session, effectively killing the bill.

Most recently, a state constitutional amendment allowing lawsuits for outdated claims was to appear on the ballot this May. However, that was once again squashed when a "clerical error" was announced, disqualifying the amendment to appear on the ballot. The earliest it can appear on the ballot is in 2023.

In this episode, we talk about the implications of this. Was it foul play or is there this level of incompetency in Harrisburg? Either way, the result is devastating injustice for abuse survivors once again.
