Sylvia Boma has accomplished something that not many Wisconsin women have even attempted. Sylvia is the first woman to be successfully elected to two terms as the La Crosse County Sheriff. She entered the field of law enforcement at a time when women weren’t likely candidates for police work, but Sylvia recognized what needed to be changed in the sheriff’s department and was determined to make it happen. There was just something about law enforcement and the political process that intrigued Sylvia and motivated her to pursue elected office.
