The RevThomas Morrell, one of the fathers of the Methodist church inAmerica, preached for many years at Elizabethtown. He was amajor m the revolutionary army, and distinguished himself on va-rious occa.sions. In June, 1780, he began to preach as a localpreacher a this place, and in the following year commenced ridingas a travelling preacher. He was a man ofgreat energy and fervent piety.
