Jonathan Morgenstein is founding President and CEO of Empowerment Solar, designing and installing distributed solar electric systems for Palestinian businesses in the West Bank.
Previously, he served as the senior advisor for Veterans, Intelligence, Foreign, Armed Services, Homeland Security, and Foreign Policy for Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI). Jonathan also served as a civilian in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, helping to establish first the Office of Global Strategic Engagement and then the Office of Rule of Law and International Humanitarian Policy. He also has served over 25 years in the Marine Corps Reserves, including two tours in Iraq and one in Bosnia. He was a Sergeant when commissioned and is currently a Major.
Jonathan has served as a conflict resolution trainer for the U.S. Institute of Peace, a human rights advocate for Refugees International in Darfur, and a High School Social Studies Teacher in San Francisco and New Hampshire. He also worked as a Senior National Security Policy Fellow at the think tank Third Way. A fellow with the Truman Project since 2006, Jonathan served 2011-2014 as co-Director of Truman's Middle East/North Africa Experts Group.
Jonathan has been published in Greentech Media, New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Richmond Times-Dispatch, Politico, The Hill and other publications. He has appeared on ABC, Al Jazeera, BBC Arabic, CNN, CNN en Espanol, MSNBC, PBS and other news channels.
Jonathan earned his Battery-Based Photovoltaic Systems Certificate from Solar Energy International (SEI), B.A. in Government from Cornell University, M. A. in International Policy Studies from Stanford University, and M.B.A. from the Sofaer program of Tel Aviv University's Recanati School of Management.
