“Cancel culture” is the new buzzword for withdrawing support or “cancelling” public figures or companies because offensive or problematic remarks or ideologies that come to light, past or present. One California Republican State Senator has introduced two new bills aimed at tackling cancel culture because she claims a "climate of intolerance has been established" in her state. Her legislation has already been met with Democratic backlash, but has the rise of cancel culture gone too far where lawmakers need to get involved?
