Mauro Prosperi is an Italian endurance athlete who gained worldwide attention for his remarkable survival story during the 1994 Marathon des Sables, a grueling six-day, 155-mile (250-kilometer) ultramarathon in the Sahara Desert.
During the race, Prosperi got caught in a severe sandstorm that disoriented him and caused him to lose his way. He ended up separated from the other competitors and became lost in the vast desert. With limited supplies, including a small amount of food and water, Prosperi faced extreme conditions, including scorching daytime temperatures and frigid nights.
