There were not many people who knew Jeffrey Epstein as well as Steve Hoffenberg. The two worked together on the Tower financial ponzi scheme and were very close while they were doing so. However, after the scheme was uncovered only Hoffenberg ended up going to prison. It would end up becoming a pattern in Epstein's life. He'd commit crimes and then, miraculously, he'd get off while his co-conspirators did time.
