59: Stage 18 | Valdaora – Santa Maria di Sala | Giro d’Italia 2019

Published: May 30, 2019, 7:33 p.m.

A thrilling finish to the final sprinters’ stage of the 2019 Giro d’Italia saw a win for a small Italian team and a change in the points competition, with the Ciclamino jersey moving from Arnaud Demare to Pascal Ackerman.

In The Cycling Podcast, Richard Moore and Daniel Friebe discuss what happened and we hear from Conor Dunne and from Ackerman’s lead-out men, Rudi Selig and Michael Schwarzmann. Ahead of two more days in the mountains, there are also interviews with Mikel Landa, Pavel Sivakov and Vincenzo Nibali’s “mind coach,” Piermarino Rosti.

And we hear from two riders at opposite ends of their careers, Mikel Honore, the young Dane riding his first Grand Tour, and Markel Irizar, the veteran Basque riding his final Grand Tour.

The Cycling Podcast is supported by Rapha and Science in Sport.
