b"On today's 'BradCast':\\xa0 As the COVID-19 crisis gravely worsens in the U.S., some Republicans are calling for measures that will increase infection rates, hospitalization rates and, yes, death. In Florida -- despite health experts' warnings, more than 200,000 confirmed cases, and new record daily infection rates -- the Education Commissioner declared all public schools must re-open next month for in-person classes five days a week, calling it critical to "a return to Florida hitting its full economic stride." President Trump further pushed the death march, pledging to pressure states to open schools, asserting they have been closed for "political reasons."\\xa0 Slate's ace legal reporter MARK JOSEPH STERN explains Monday's new U.S. Supreme Court rulings, and an emerging pattern of judicial opinions that bode darkly for voting rights in this year's critical Presidential election. The Court ruled that states may prevent so-called "faithless electors" from casting their vote in the Electoral College for someone other than the Presidential candidate who won the state's popular vote. The Court's ruling on robocalls made to cell phones reveals some encouraging news regarding a challenge to the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). But several recent decisions by both SCOTUS and federal appeals courts are extremely troubling -- and revealing -- as to how right-wing controlled federal courts will address voter suppression and measures intended to make voting safer and easier during the pandemic, suggesting we could be in for no small amount of chaos, disenfranchisement and, yes, deadly disease, in this year's crucial general elections.
