b"On today's 'BradCast':\\xa0 Voting rights advocacy groups have begun taking legal action to counter the Republican Party's latest attack on democracy.\\xa0 Despite zero evidence of fraud in the 2020 election in Georgia, the Republican-controlled state legislature jammed through a massive voter suppression bill in a single day that severely curbs voter access to the ballot box -- reducing early voting, increasing photo ID burdens for absentee voters, and even banning the distribution of food and beverages to voters waiting in Georgia's famously long voting lines. The new law will also allow the state's GOP legislature to take control of any county's elections, threatening to both undermine or even overturn election results, exactly as Donald Trump had tried to do after losing the 2020 election. CAREN SHORT, Senior Voting Rights Attorney with the Southern Poverty Law Center, explains the pernicious provisions in GA's unprecedented new voter suppression law, several new lawsuits filed to challenge the restrictions for targeting minority voters, and new proposed federal laws, such as the For the People Act (H.R.1) or John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R.4), that would help defend voting rights against a number of the GOP voter suppression tactics now underway in states across the country. Short also details how voters can take action to protect the right to vote from these attacks.\\xa0 Also today:\\xa0\\xa0 President Biden announced expansion of COVID vaccine distribution, while CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky warns of a sense of 'impending doom' as infections surge in states that are rapidly lifting pandemic restrictions..."
