'BradCast' 3/2/2018 (Chaos? What Chaos? Let's Have a Trade War!)

b"The White House implosion continues at the end of an extra-chaotic week, so Trump declares a trade war!\\xa0 Huge tariffs on imported steel and aluminum (those are taxes on the American people, Mr. President) will almost certainly lead to international trade wars with friends and foes alike, raise the cost of many consumer goods and, yes, kill American jobs. Trump's proposed tariff scheme has already exacerbated internal White House divisions, Congressional Republicans are furious, allies like Canada and the EU threatening trade retaliation, the fossil fuel industry is declaring that jobs will be lost and prices will rise, and even Trump's own Defense Secretary is advising against the measure, which President Chaos is hoping to pull off on "national security" grounds.\\xa0 Other than all that, the idea is going over very well. Also today: another school shooting, this time at Central Michigan University. Huge early voting turnout in Texas for the 2018 mid-term election primary.\\xa0 New poll shows record high approval ratings for the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and Medicaid. Georgia is finally replacing their old 100% unverifiable Diebold touch-screen voting systems, but with new, similarly unverifiable computer-printed "paper ballot" systems.\\xa0 Desi Doyen has the latest 'Green News Report,' with Trump's EPA chief citing the Bible as justification for polluting the planet with fossil fuel exploitation. (Hope Pope Francis doesn't find out!)\\xa0 Plus listener mail, and the good news that the American Cancer Society has recommended electronic cigarettes and vaping devices for smoking cessation. (Hope the anti-tobacco Democrats who are making it more difficult to vape don't find out!)"
